North Carolina Tight Race for Governor: McCrory Campaign prepares for “extended contest”

The media is reporting that Pat McCrory, the incumbent Governor of North Carolina, is preparing for a recount and “extended contest” of irregularities in the counting of ballots in Durham County.  According to local media, a complaint for recount was filed to review 90,000 ballots in Durham County that had multiple issues on Election Day.  There were multiple problems including the malfunctioning of electronic poll books in the checking in of voters and the failure of media cards that required the re-tabulating of tens of thousands of votes.  A tweet put out by the McCrory campaign called for the funding of an extended contest of the election that indicates the incumbent Governor is prepared to fully litigate the issues in Durham County.  If you have time, this UNC law review article spells out the details and parameters of an election contest in North Carolina.
